Frequently Asked Questions
What is Salesforce?
Salesforce is a CRM (Customer Relation Management system), and it is designed to help you and your team streamline, integrate, automate, and report effectively all the different aspects of your organization.
It becomes the central repository of information about your stakeholders, fund development, programming, and communication. Because all of your data is in one place, and it's all connected, you will have a much clearer understanding of what is going on in your org, and can maximize your hours creating more impact in your communities.
Is Salesforce the best option for me?
The honest answer is... it depends.
Salesforce is a great option if:
1) You are looking for the best features at the lowest price AND you are a small org (less than 10 users).
2) You can dedicate time and resources to initial setup and learning to use Salesforce.
Salesforce is probably not your best option if:
1) You want the easiest CRM to setup and train users on.
2) You want something that 'just works' out of the box (although, honestly, very few CRMs work well out of the box for nonprofits).
Salesforce's superpowers are being incredibly customizable and being able to automate a lot of your standard business processes. That is what helps your nonprofit be more effective and efficient in the long run.
Can you help us with technology beyond our database?
Salesforce is just one piece of your organization's technology puzzle, and one that saves you extra time when you integrate your other software and data sources. With that in mind we are happy to help you integrate and automate as much of your tech as possible with Salesforce.
That said; we aren't website or app designers, and we definitely aren't graphics gurus. As we identify the different pieces of your technology puzzle, we will let you know what we can and cannot help you integrate.
Can you help if we don't use Salesforce as our CRM?
Our expertise is specifically in Salesforce. While we might be able to offer you advice and direction for other CRMs, we do not offer implementation services for them.
That being said, we are happy to help you with your data modeling to help gain clarity on turning your real-world actions into meaningful data.
We aren't a non-profit, will you work with us?
We are focused on helping people who make a positive impact in the world and in their communities, so we only work with organizations who are non-profit 501(c)3, public benefit corporations, or organizations that identify as social enterprises.

How much will it cost?
Salesforce often tells organizations to expect to pay $10,000 to customize their system for your needs. For most nonprofits, especially small ones, the actual cost is far lower.
It also depends on what you want. If you only want to track donors and donations it might take just a few hundred dollars to get you up and running.
Obviously, the more in-depth customization you want, the more it will cost. There are some things that you can do to minimize the cost though:
- Get really clear on what you want Salesforce to do for your org. Sit down with your team and discuss what the top priorities are before you hire a contractor. The more clear your use case is, the faster we can get you a result.
- Approach it in phases. This gives you clear waypoints to make sure that cost is in line with your budget (you do have a budget line for technology, right?).
- Have a designated administrator on your team. This will be the person that we train on the 'back-end' of Salesforce to manage basic customizations in the future.
- Be curious! Go through some of Salesforce's free pieces of training (like this one on Non-Profit-Success-Pack). The more you know, the less often you'll have to call for help.
About Us
Hi, I'm Tom - the founder of Greater Impact Consulting. I spent years working at a nonprofit, so I understand how challenging it can be to run a program, help raise funds, and manage your volunteers.
Thankfully, I was able to design our Salesforce system to make my job easier, helping the entire team be more effective. We were able to grow our fundraising efforts, our budget, and the impact we created in our community.
Now I want to help you do the same.
